Border Wall

Updated: Sep 8, 2018

Our president is pressing forward with the construction of a southern border wall. Locally, there is substantial opposition to the border wall regardless of political affiliation. I believe that this wall, whatever form it takes, will not prevent nor slow down immigrants (legal and illegal) from crossing the southern border wall. I believe that the expense (estimated at 12 to 25 billion dollars) will not be cost effective. For those of us who live and work in the border region, such a wall would be an impediment to the growing border economy, especially as the opportunities for diversifying our local economy are already limited.

I am pleased to report that a proposed Resolution opposing the border wall was passed by a 6-1 vote on February 21, 2017. The minutes are available here.
