School Safety

Updated: Sep 16, 2018

School shooting deaths are a small fraction of the shooting deaths that occur in our country, and that in turn is a small fraction of the overall deaths in our country each year.  However, there have been concerns expressed to me by parents and grandparents of students in Las Cruces about students being afraid to go to school and fearing for their lives while at school.  This is having a negative impact on their learning and their lives.  Additionally, there seems to be a correlation between the number of people killed and injured, and the weapons used.

We passed Resolution 18-158 on June 18, 2018, after I revised an earlier resolution that I originally proposed on March 19, 2018. You can view a video of the meeting (starting at the one hour mark).
